Retirement……LOVE IT!

As the month of June was speeding by, I began to wonder if I was going to have the time or the energy to make my patriotic wreath before July 4th.  I bought all the materials over a month ago when I made my second flip flop wreath (click here to see that post; for the first flip flop wreath, click here).  Somehow I did manage to finish my wreath a few days before the Fourth of July; I just didn’t get around to blogging about it until now.  Even though it’s too late for you to make one for this year, there will always be next year.  If you buy your supplies now, they will be on SALE!  Sale?  Did someone say, “Sale!”?  I’m ready. Let’s go!

Here are the materials you need to begin making your wreath (along with watching several YouTube videos on how to work with deco mesh).

First I added my chenille stems (I call them pipe cleaners –  see flip flop post!).

Next you start attaching the deco mesh.

Silly me! I forgot to work from the inside of the circle to the outside. Oh, well…I made it work.

I was able to go around my wire wreath base three times instead of just twice.  I like the more substantial look doing it this way created than the look of my flip flop wreath.

Next I added the blue and red accent colors.

I bought some shiny red, white, and blue star garland which I added next.

What is a patriotic Fourth of July wreath without flags?  I added two flags and a couple of silver beaded, bling-y floral spray thing-ys.   I use such technical terminology, don’t I?

Here is the wreath on my front door.

As I was driving by the front of my house on the way to the store, I noticed that you couldn’t really see the flags from the road.  I took it down and added two more flags at the top.

The addition of two more flags at the top make all the flags more noticeable.

Now you can easily see there are flags on the wreath from the road.

Ahhh! Much better…don’t you think?
