We FINALLY made it to our one month stay in Maine! We are at Wassamki Springs Campground in Scarborough, Maine (just southwest of the city of Portland). It is a pretty nice park. It doesn’t have a swimming pool, but there is a lake with sand beaches in which one can swim. We have a spacious site, but the sites are of various sizes; some with shade, some without.
There is plenty to do right here in the park: horseshoes, basketball, volleyball, pickle ball, a bonfire area, and swimming. There’s a banquet hall, a rec hall, and a small store (that has the best ice cream; you must try the flavor “Fly Fishing Fudge”!) close to the center of the park. They also cook a big breakfast at the banquet Hall on Sundays for a nominal fee (i.e.- two eggs, bacon, American potatoes, two pieces of toast, and two huge pancakes for just $7.50!).
We have had the strangest weather since we arrived. The average temperature for this area at this time of year is 79 degrees. The first few days we were here, it was in the upper 80s and mid 90s. One day the high was 99! Then the rain moved in and the high for several days was in the low to upper 50s! One night it got down in the mid 40s. We even turned the heat on.🤣 It seemed like the rain lasted forever. We almost forgot what the sun looked liked. Anyway, today the sun is out, it is absolutely gorgeous, and the high is supposed to be 73 degrees.
On one of the really hot days, we decided to drive over to Kennebunkport. It is on the coast, so we thought it might be cooler there (you know, cool breezes off the ocean blowing inland). It was! When we left the RV, it was 92 degrees; when we got to the coast, it was 72 degrees.
It was a lovely day in Kennebunkport. The photos really don’t do it justice.
Kennebunkport is known for many things, but it is most well known as the summer home of President George H. W. Bush and his lovely wife, Barbara. Mrs. Bush did a lot of voluntary work to help the community of Kennebunkport. Here are a few photos of their home on Walker’s Point.
We ate our first lobster roll in Kennebunkport. It was delicious! Once again, I forgot to take a pic of it. I guess I was really hungry. Afterwards, we walked around the town and went into several cute little shops. I hope we go back to Kennebunkport before we leave Maine.
So, for now ….. “On the Road Again!”
